Laputa, when Pazu and Sheeta finally crash land on it, is abandoned and the once technologically superior floating castle in the sky is overtaken by nature and trees and absolute beauty that the people on earth don’t have. Miyazaki delivered one heck of an allegory about the dangers of weapons of mass destruction and the importance of environmental conservation. Or, rather, the whole thing with Muska simply seemed trite? It’s difficult to explain but this film really didn’t jive with me like “Nausicaä” did.ĭon’t get me wrong, though. The sub plot with the space pirates was a nice touch but the parts with Pazu and Sheeta doing work on Captain Dola’s ship didn’t really seem to fit in the plot. I really feel like it could have ended at least thirty minutes earlier than it did. Miyazaki always creates extremely beautiful and detail oriented anime films. I think “Nausicaä” spoiled me in terms of Miyazaki’s talent and storytelling ability. I’m, honestly, not completely sure about this film. Soon, it’s a race to save the world as Laputa’s riches turn out to be far more destructive than anyone could have imagined. Sheeta doesn’t want anything to do with it. Muska seeks the castle for the riches inside.

Sheeta possess a mysterious amulet that not only saves her from falling from the sky, but it will lead them straight to the legendary floating castle of Laputa. She falls into a mining town and is rescued by young Pazu (James Van Der Beek) while also being chased by a band of air pirates lead by Captain Dola (Cloris Leachman). “Castle in the Sky” tells the story of Sheeta (Anna Paquin) who falls from the sky after being abducted by the evil Colonel Muska (Mark Hamill). The film has the marks of a Studio Ghibli production with the inclusion of magic, a main character that looks like a later Ghibli creation and the ever present presence of aeronautical technology and the subject of environmental protection. But Louis isn't so happy, when he finds out his brothers are eager to impress Sheeta, too.“Castle in the Sky” was the very first film to be released under the Studio Ghibli moniker. He goes to the galley and offers her flowers. When Sheeta joins his gang on the Tiger Moth, Louis wants to make a good impression on her. Later on in the story, he is always alongside his gang fighting the army and chasing Sheeta. Then he hits him in the stomach, which leads to the brawl in the town. Now he shows his muscle and Duffi do the same. Immediately he recognize her and runs after her. When Pazu and Sheeta run towards Duffi, Sheeta loose her hat. In the morning in Pazu's Town he and Henri ask Duffi about Sheeta. He and his brothers are looking for her, but they stop and continues the search on the next day. He tries to catch Sheeta, but she escapes by falling down from the airship. He is first seen capsizing a civil airship right at the beginning of the movie. Like the rest of the boys in the gang, Louis almost always wears a brown shirt with pink pants, a belt, a red hood and brown slip-on shoes.Īs the oldest of Dola's sons, Louis is more or less their leader. Louis has dark brown hair, dark eyes, a long face with a square chin, and a mustache.
He is voiced by Yoshito Yasuhara in Japanese, Dave Mallow in the Streamline English version, and Mandy Patinkin in the Disney English version.
